Hobgoblin is a supervillain appearing in Marvel Comics, primarily as an adversary of Spider-Man. Created by Roger Stern and John Romita Jr., the original Hobgoblin debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #238 (March 1983).
The initial identity of Hobgoblin remained a mystery for years, with several characters falsely unmasked. Eventually, Roderick Kingsley, a wealthy fashion designer with criminal ties, was revealed as the original Hobgoblin. Kingsley sought power and replicated Norman Osborn's Goblin formula, augmenting his strength and intellect. He used his wealth to create the Hobgoblin persona and terrorize New York City.
Over time, other individuals assumed the Hobgoblin identity, including Jason Macendale and Phil Urich. These later versions often had different motivations and methods, further complicating the character's history.
